New Options Pages for Every Theme

Posted on September 11, 2009 by Jason Schuller - 31 Comments

I have been working hard on a new style for my theme options pages that can consistently be used for all of my themes. After a few revisions, I believe I have hit the mark and have since updated all of my themes with this new options page style.

A Widget Style Interface

I wanted to create a style that blends well with the default WordPress admin, but at the same gives you clean and easy to follow theme options. With that in mind, I duplicated the style of the default WordPress dashboard and created a “widget” for each theme option which allows you to configure all your options individually. This will also make it very easy for me to add new options for future theme releases.

Stay up to Date With Press75.com News and Themes

I also wanted to create an unobtrusive way for you to stay up to date with the latest Press75.com news, theme updates and new theme releases. You will find a “Latest Press75.com News” widget within the right hand column on each theme options page. I have also integrated a mini theme store within the WordPress admin which allows you to see the latest themes released on Press75.com. Simply click “Purchase Themes” under the “Appearance” tab to view all the latest Press75.com WordPress themes.

    Jason,

I really like the changes you’ve made. I especially like Massive News.

If I can comment about what I’ve experienced while creating my web blog, I think it may be of some value.

I’m a IT Director but by night I indulge my passion. travel and photography, so I combined the two and created a travel review site with my photographs.

Like most folks, I run ads.. some from Google Adsnse, Commission Junction, Adsdaq etc. The most frustrating tasks for me is implementation of ads from various ad networks.

My current theme does a fair job at allowing me to integrate my Google Adsense ads on the side and on the top banner, however I still find it somewhat difficult to put ads where they really mater and that’s inside the postings of each posting I create daily.

My research shows if a discreet or even and overtly placed ad is integrated with your postings then the CTR increases. It is entirely possible you don’t want your theme to be cluttered with ads etc. If that is the case then my comments are for not.

If in fact you desire to make your theme a little more valuable and user friendly would it be possible to include more ads placement features and built in video functions and a carousel feature.

I find your themes to be fresh and clean and would love to switch to your more eye catching theme but I think it lacks the features I need to make the full switch. I’m also concern developers forget about the webmasters who already have a them and forget to focus on how easy or not to upgrade to the new released themes.

I hope my comments have helps.

    Keep up the great work.

    Richard

Very clean options page style … did you made the boxes collapsible? Maybe an idea to organize it if you plan to include more features. Keep on the great work.

Twitter seems a good place to ask random questions but as its blocked where I live, I’ll have a bash here.

I notice that with nearly all new themes that are coming out on the net that when you want to make a comment about something someone has said in the comments section on a site, you simply click reply and a drop down comment form appears. But with your themes the whole page has to reload and reconfigure to the bottom of the page.

I was wondering if you were going to start doing the simple drop down boxes with all your future themes?

WP is not my speciality so I have no idea if its complicated or not.

It does make themes look and flow a lot better though.

    regards

    Sven.

Your themes rock. You should check out TTFGen for an easier way to embed fonts in your themes. TTFGen will generate the images in the same way that cufon does, except you can upload your own fonts. It’s done in jQuery and PHP. A wordpress version will be available soon.
    Check it out.
