New Themes on a Brand New Theme Framework

Posted on October 14, 2009 by Jason Schuller - 39 Comments

Consistency in code is very important in my opinion which is why I have been spending the last few weeks developing a brand new theme framework for which all my new themes will be based on. This all started with the work I did on my new theme options pages and has since expanded to an entire foundation for developing new themes. Depending on the type of user you are, you might not even notice a difference, but if you like to dig into the code a little bit, you will find that customizing my themes, or adding new features on this new framework is a walk in the park. Even developing new themes from scratch will take you about half the time. How? With plug and play CSS classes and code snippets, you literally can have a custom theme up and running in minutes.

Video Elements Will be the First

So most of you probably know that I have been working on a new version of my Video Elements theme, and that as usual, it is about a week or two behind schedule. The reason being is that I have been developing Video Elements along side of this new theme framework. With any framework, you will find that you change things over and over again until you get it just the way you want. In my case, I have finally settled on a structure that is simple and flexible. Something I can adapt to any of my current or even new themes. Video Elements is nearly finished, and if all goes well, TV Elements and the long awaited next version of my popular On Demand theme will follow.

I love the user functionality you incorporate into all of your themes. Aside from the great design , what I truly admire in all of your themes is the structure . Structure is the fundamental element in any design ; whether it be a Template theme or a house. If the structure is not there , the ‘ house ‘ will cave in . I have fallen in LOVE with the ‘ Seven Five ‘ Theme – I have never seen any other theme built as this theme has been built. At first , a user may perceive it as a simple theme – but to me it’s like an M.C. Escher labyrinth :) it appears to be ‘ simplistic ‘ to the layperson , but for anyone possessing any insight , it is def a complex structure- it beats any grid design out there ! At the present moment, I am pondering purchasing a Premium theme , and ’7-5′ is my first choice ( I have a second also ) but , I may turn around and just purchase both and put an end to my suffering in trying to decide :) I also love the Video Elements as well- exceptional theme ( although I featured the ‘ Cafe Press ‘ & ’7-5′ themes on my blog amongst the ” Exceptional WP Themes ‘ article I did recently . ( not in any particular order ) :))

Wishing you much continued future success within all of your career endeavors .

As stated above, the marketing coup is masterful.

I hope the hype can match the product because I’ve put all my eggs into this basket and held off on PHP Motion is hopes of this theme being the great savior.

Wowser! you don’t know how much I’ve been waiting for this video elements release! Excellent work. You included the simple drop down comment thing as well which makes it flow a lot better!

Just some initial feedback to help you.

I have tried it in Explorer 7 and Firefox. On some pages the drop down menu seems to go behind the video (firefox) and the thumbnails in the slider gallery (IE 7). This might need checking.

P.s Could you now change my purchase email address (mikkelmastrup@hotmail.com) to this one (I sent you an email about this a few months ago) a.s.a.p

    Regards Sven

very strange goings on with the demo.

Thought I would try them at work.

IE7 doesn’t play the instant view video.

Firefox when I click on a video post and it goes to the page it just completely misses out the video section for all the videos.

The rest of the themes are fine just this new one.

I do however live in a strange part of the world which I wouldn’t be suprised if thats the cause, not a bug!

    regards

    Sven.

Sven… Yeah, I have thoroughly tested the theme in all modern browsers without issue including IE8, Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Still working out a few very minor issues with IE7, but I should have those resolved very soon.

When can we expect the brand new theme framework? Also will your framework have an API for easily creating custom theme options or is it boil plate code? A friend told me there is some Australian guy who has incorporated AJAX into his framework, will you be doing the same?
