The Seven Five WordPress Theme v1.6

Posted on May 18, 2010 by Jason Schuller - 79 Comments

The “Seven Five” theme which I use on my personal website theSevenFive.com has become extremely popular since I first released it several months ago. Well, I just released Seven Five 1.6 which includes a bunch of great new customization features. You can now style the theme background, font colors, border colors and link colors right through the brand new theme options page. You can also arrange all the home page sections in whatever order you like using widgets. Have a look at the video below to get a better idea as to what I am talking about. You can download the new Seven Five 1.6 theme free right on the Press75.com home page. Have fun!!!

Thank you so much for the updates. Being able to customize the entire theme from the options page is spot on. Also, not being able to organize the home page sections however I want was something that kept me from using the original version. Thanks again…

Hi Jason. Thank you so VERY VERY much for the updates. This theme will stick with me forever. It just keeps getting better and better. I have a YouTube vlogger channel and with the updates to come, I see that it will be even more easy to implement them into my theme. Is it possible that you will make it so, that it can be set up to an account and then retrieve my videos as they are uploaded?
You are the best developer/designer out there :D

Hi Jason, just to let you know the flickr feed does NOT work in either seven five version 1.0 or 1.5. Please check whether the download files are coded right or not. I’m in love with seven five. Have modified it to a great extent. The 1.5 last.fm feature and twitter is NOT working as well. Thanks :D

The demo and my own personal site (both linked below) are running 1.5 without any Flickr or Twitter issues. For Flickr, make sure you have the RSS feed address added to the options page. If Twitter isn’t working, you probably have conflicting plugins activated. I would recommend that if you need further support that you purchase a support package for the theme.

Love your theme, was looking for a streamlined Lifestream feed theme with minimal blog integration and this is perfect, thank you very much.

Just a note on flickr not working; after inspecting my code it seems like I get a general feed instead of my own no matter how I set the feed (atom, rss etc). The link does however refer to my profile correctly.

I do appreciate that I have to get the extra support, I’d just thought I’d bring the Flickr issue to your attention. I’ve tried the different variations and versions of both the RSS and ATOM feeds, with different localization languages and I’ve even hard coded my rss feed to the widgets/flickr.php. AND tried several of my different accounts and none of them works. All I get is the standard “all user” feed.

The theme has been completely reworked, so you will probably have to re-customize 1.5.

Timm… You have to understand that it is pretty much impossible for me to anticipate the potentially infinite number of customizations random users might make to these themes. Would you prefer that I don’t ever provide theme updates? It is a bit disappointing to read comments like this, especially considering that this is a free theme that I have spent hours of my own time to produce for users like yourself. For future customizations… I might recommend that you create a child theme.

Jason, please dont be disappointed, I might have put my words out a little harsh. I appreciate your free themes, your time and the fact that you keep such great work free. All I am saying is that WHEN you make a free theme and by that, make some people that love your fine work dependent on that theme, then it is a sad fact that we (I), have to start over each time you update it. You have the skills to make a code thingy, that can make an update possible I like to think, but im possible wrong on that and if that is not industry standard then im just a spoiled little s*** (NOT)!

Please, it’s no secret that by making a free theme, you spread your name and your work, it’s a part of your marketing and I myself have bought two of your themes and I also love them and use them and look forward to the updates, so dont feel offended when I ask for the possibillity of a easier way to update.

I will look into this child theme you mention, thank you and also, just to be all straight here. Take a look at the reply I made BEFORE I made the above question ;D

High five from Denmark and thank you for your reply by e-mail today.

No worries Timm… I may have misunderstood the intention of your comment. Of course I am always researching ways to make theme updates (when I provide them) easier for those that have customized the theme. But again… it is pretty much impossible for me to know and plan for all the customizations you have made when updating the theme. Plus… in order to improve and add functionality, the theme code often has to change from the original version. This is why I recommend that you do not customize the theme directly. By creating a child theme for the original, you will ensure that none of your customizations will be lost when the theme is updated.

Awesome theme and many thanks for providing it for free. In the theme demo there is a blog link up the top, do you need access to the support forums to find out how to add this feature? Also, on the press75 homepage the video popup box that appears when I click the ‘Watch A Video tour’ button, is this an extra provided in the support forums?

Hi Fran, I was having the same problem on WordPress 3.0 but it turned out to be a plugins issue. I disabled all my plugins, activated the theme and then turned them all back on one by one.

In my case the problem was that I already had the Last.fm Records plugin (that is including with this theme) installed separately. Once I deleted that plugin everything worked great! Including the Twitter widget.

Thanks Jason for the great theme. Now I just need to figure out how to get pagination on my blog page ;-)

Wow. This is an amazing theme (I was after a clean, ‘hub’-like space for my social media stuffs) – and really user friendly! I found it super-easy to install. My advice? Make sure you WATCH the video above; deactivate all your plug-ins; make sure you go to Appearance > Theme Options to customise the widgets; THEN use Appearance > Widgets to order them on your page.

Now, the only thing I need help with (but alas am not a paid-up forum user) is how to display the first few lines of my blog only (accompanied by a ‘continue reading’ button, as per your own blog, Jason)? Currently, the whole long post displays. And as you may have noticed, I have a tendency to waffle on a bit… ;)

Hopefully I’ll figure it out eventually. Am going to have a bash at customising colours next. Look forward to the You Tube/Vimeo and SoundCloud integration in the future *hint hint*

    1. I do not have a widget in my widgets section to support the “Custom Feed” section in the Theme Options section. How do I get that so I may add it to the homepage widgets?

    2. Does the simple video embedder plugin not work with this theme? I see it in the add new post section. But when I publish it does not show up in the post. Please lend some advice.

I am in the middle of evaluating free wordpress themes for my site.

      1. It’s there… just look for “Seven Five – Feed”.
      2. The Simple Video Embedder is not integrated into this theme for several reasons… primary because for this particular theme it would be just as easy to add video within your post editor.

Thanks I am not sure how I missed that one lol. Too bad for the simple vid embedder would have been slick. I love this theme becuase it is so vanilla and will be a cinch to skin. Do you recommend any of your other themes that share the features of this one but have simple embedder and are very stripped down design wise to allow easier skinning?

Again… the Simple Video Embedder isn’t necessary with the Seven Five theme. If you wat to embed video, just place the URL to your video within the post editor wherever you want your video to be displayed.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the theme–looks great!

I had a minor issue with the Last.fm plugin included–my blog is using a /blog folder for the WordPress installation, but the permalinks are based on the root directory.

    In the last.fm.records.php, ~line 61, it’s getting this option:

I changed it to the following, which outputs the WordPress URL (which is usually the same, but can be different!):

    And that did the trick!

I know that you didn’t develop the plugin and I’m not asking for a fix or anything, just want to post this here in case someone else comes across the same issue. :)

      Oops, WordPress ate my PHP!

Line 61 has this as the default:
      echo get_option(‘home’);

And if you have this issue, changing it to this should fix it:
      echo get_option(‘siteurl’);

So instead of the ‘home’ option, you’re getting the ‘siteurl’ option.

I changed the address to http://feeds.delicious.com/rss/feedyourself and it worked. However the text description is missing.

I will do a little testing on this when I get a chance this week… but I have not had any issues with Delicious feeds as of yet. Thanks for posting what you found.

Text description showed up eventually. So it’s just the format of the feed address it doesn’t like.
I modified your code in delicious.php and removed “v2″ from the address.

        I’m using WP 3.0.1

Love this theme! Any chance of adding multiple custom feeds? Pretty please?

I just installed the theme and it broke my blog (error in function.php on line 16). I’m new to WP and have no idea how to fix this. Suggestions?
