I followed the instructions for installing Simple Video Embedder and the JW Player. I even entered the path to the JW Player files location. I still can't get the FLV video to show up after entering the URL and size. I'm using this with the Gallery child theme.
Also, how do I get rid of of the "Get the Flash Player to see this player." copy.

I get a "403 Forbidden" error when trying to access that path.

I'd assume it's a Wordpress security thing or something to do with server permissions? What should be the case?

You need to adjust your folder permissions so that the file is at least accessible.

Up to a point. Now I need to know why the video player is showing when it shouldn't be.
Could you explain what you mean by "the video player is showing when it shouldn't be"? Is it displaying even when there's no video? If you could let us know when it is showing up and why it shouldn't be, that would be great. Thanks.

I would highly suggest asking the creator of the the theme.
