Topic: Common Issues and How to Fix Them

If you're thumbnails aren't showing, right click where it is supposed to be and click "View Image" (menu option might be slightly different across browsers). Usually this would bring you to a page with just the image. However, since it's not showing up there may be some error messages that will help us figure out what's wrong.

If you get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreatefromjpeg()...

Or a similar error

Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreatefrom____()...

it means you don't have GD support.

If you get an error like this:

Warning: finfo_open() [function.finfo-open]: Failed to load magic database at...

It means your host configured the Fileinfo PHP extension incorrectly and should ask them to fix it.

If you get an error with words "safe_mode" or "openbase_dir" it means your host configured PHP incorrectly and you should talk to them about fixing it.

If your thumbnails don't seem to be uploading, it is most likely a permissions problem. Try the following permissions in order until it works:

  • 755

  • 775

  • 777

If none of them seem to work, you may have to "recurse into subdirectories" when you change the permissions. In FileZilla, you simply check this box:

Hi, i use WP 2.8. After install your plugin i have no thumbnails, if i right click where it is supposed to be and click "View Image" i have next

Meaning did you upgrade to 2.8 from an earlier version, or simply install a fresh version of 2.8?

I am so lost right now... Help Please... This thumbnail thing is really slowing me down. I just want to know if there is any way that I can pull an image out of the video I post so that I dont have to google a image and put it as a thumbnail that it is not even in the video...

The Simple Post Thumbnails plugin does not generate thumbnails from video.

I had the same problem with a clean install of wordpress 2.8.3. Now I changed this and now the thumbnail is showing! No more array-error! You should change this in the original-plugin-code...

Did all this, and thumbnails are finally working, unfortunately when i add a image url to a post and press update, it will show this error message:

If i ignore this, (and press Back), it did create a thumbnail, and saved the file, but I think its weird it shows this error page...

I tried the fix above but still can't get thumbs to show. They seem to upload fine into thumbnails directory but do not display in either posts or carousel.

99% of the time, this has to do with your host configuration. You need to double check that you are running PHP5 with GD support enabled.

My PHP is 5.2.9 and GD is enabled. My WP install was an upgrade not a clean install. Will try that next.

Ok, put on a completely new and clean install on same server and works. Going back to orig and try to figure out the issues.

I noticed that when you try to access the timthumb.php file (http://askmrvideoblog.com/wp-content/pl … mthumb.php) that resizes and then displays the image you get an internal server error. That could be the source of the problem. It might be a permissions issues.

After installing on a subdirectory http://askmrvideoblog.com/blog it worked. What I notice on the main directory installation is that the cache folder in the plugin directory is not getting created. Also, in the /blog/ installation, even though thumbnail setting is set to jpg, the thumbnails in he cache directory are all png. Which works.
