Sample Data and Child Theme Download

Use the links below to download the sample data file and child theme for this theme.

NOTE: WordPress does not provide import functionality for theme options, custom fields, required plugins or other settings. This means that even with the theme sample data file, you will still need to adjust your theme options and most likely add content according to the setup and usage instructions below. Installing Your Theme

There are a number of ways to install a WordPress theme:

- WordPress admin
- S/FTP
- Hosting control panel (cPanel used as a specific example)

The recommended installation method for most people is through the WordPress admin, though some theme updates may require the use of S/FTP or your hosting control panel. Instructions for all three options can be found in the Using Themes Codex article.

Managing Custom Menus

Modern WordPress themes include native custom menu support which allows you to configure your theme menus however you like in a convenient drag-and-drop interface. With a custom menu you can easily add custom links, pages, and categories to your navigation menu. Follow the instructions below for more information on how to create and mange custom menus.

  1. Log into your WordPress Admin (e.g. yoursite.com/wp-admin), and navigate to Appearance > Menus.
  2. By default your pages will be listed, so click 'create new menu' to begin setting up your menu
  3. On the left you will see options to add 'Pages', 'Custom Links', and 'Categories' to your menu.
  4. Once done, click 'Save Menu' to save your custom menu, then under 'Menu Settings' check the box beside your desired menu location.

For more information on custom menus please see the Appearance Menus Screen Codex article.

Using Theme Widgets

Modern WordPress theme include widgetized sidebars and/or content areas. The widgets you have available to you depend on your theme and plugins installed (if your theme and plugins provide custom widgets). You can view and add widgets to your theme by logging into your WordPress admin panel, and then navigating to Appearance > Widgets. Please be aware that some widgets have options, usually within the widget itself (e.g. by expanding the widget after adding it to your sidebar), or in a dedicated admin panel sidebar.

For more information on widgets please see the WordPress Widgets Codex article.

WordPress Customizer

The customizer page is where you will find all the theme specific configuration, customization and featured content options. Within your WordPress admin, click "Appearance" and then "Customizer" to load the options page. There will be on screen descriptions and instructions for each option within the page explaining what the option is for and how to configure it. The customizer page and included options will most likely be different for each individual theme, but the concept is the same for all themes.

Header Logo

To add a logo, go to Appearance > Themes. Click on the Customize link for your current theme. In the theme customizer screen, the a Logo can be uploaded via the Logo option under the Site Title & Tagline section.

A Header Ad can be added to the Header by going to Appearance > Header and uploading an image. After saving your image, a new Image Link option will be available. The Image Link option allows you to provide a link for the ad image; by default it links to your home page.

Sidebars
Widgets

Massive Press has a few different sidebar locations for the home page template, Post pages, and regular Pages. Sidebars in the Massive Press theme will not show unless a sidebar area has widgets. If a sidebar area does not have widgets, the content area will automatically expand to fill the space. If you are expecting a sidebar to show and it’s not, make sure you have added at least on widget to that sidebar area.

Featured Posts Widget

The Featured Posts widget is used to feature posts by way of a Tag. This widget looks to display any Posts that have the tag you provide via the Tag name. For example, the theme demo has a few posts tagged as Featured. In this case, we’ve setup a couple Featured Posts widgets with a tag name of “featured”. The tag name should be the slug of the tag your looking to feature. If a tag name has a space, such as “Featured Post”, your slug may be “featured-post”. Notice the space is replaced with a dash.

Featured Slider Widget

This widget will feature posts that have a Featured Image set. Just like the Featured Posts widget, the posts displayed are determined by the Tag name provided.

Home
Home Setup

The home page shown in the theme demo utilizes the Home page template. This page template is 100% widgetized. You can add widgets to the page by going to Appearance > Widgets. Any widgets added to the Home – * widget areas will display on which ever page is using the Home page template.

After you have created a Page and set it to use the Home page template, you can set is as the Front Page by going to Settings > Reading. Change the Front page displays option to A static page. Next, select the Home page from the Front Page options select menu. Save your changes.
