Simple Video Embedder Installation Instructions

WordPress 2.8 Specific

Requirements

Simple Video Embedder requires PHP5. Most hosts give the option to use PHP5. If you are not using PHP5, contact your host for information on enabling it.

Upload Plugin Files

1. Download the plugin archive and extract the files it contains. DO NOT change any folder or file names as this will cause errors in the plugin.
2. Using an FTP client to access your host web server, upload all plugin files and their containing folder to the wp-content/plugins directory provided by WordPress. For example, all of the Simple Video Embedder plugin files should be in wp-content/plugins/simple-video-embedder.

Add Self Hosted Video Support (OPTIONAL)

The Simple Video Embedder plugin works with self hosted FLV (Flash) or MP4 (Quicktime) Videos as well as the supported video services. If you wish to use the Simple Video embedder with FLV or MP4 video, follow the instructions below:

1. Download the JW FLV Media Player found at "http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/" and extract the files it contains. DO NOT change any folder or file names as this will cause errors in the plugin.
2. Using an FTP client to access your host web server, upload all extracted files and their containing folder (mediaplayer-viral) to the wp-content directory provided by WordPress. For example, all of the JW Media Player files should be in wp-content/mediaplayer-viral.

Activate The Plugin

1. Log in to the WordPress Administration Control Panel.
2. Select the Plugins menu item.
3. From the list available plugins, click Activate next to the Simple Video Embedder plugin.

Theme Integration (REQUIRED)

You can insert the the post thumbnail wherever you want in your theme files (within the loop) such as index.php, single.php, category.php, etc...

p75GetVideo()

p75GetThumbnail(int $post_id)

This function returns the embed code for the video associated with the post post_id.

Parameters:

• post_id
  

  The post ID of the post to get the video from.

Usage:

This function is usually used inside the WordPress loop.

(bool) p75GetThumbnail(int $post_id)

This function checks if there is a video associated with the post post_id.

Adding Video to Your Posts

The Simple Video Embedder plugins' URL Add feature is currently compatible with several video formats including: Vimeo, YouTube, MetaCafe, Revver, Google Video, Seesmic and FLV (Flash Video). However, you can add any embeddable video format by using the Embed Code Override field. Follow the instructions below, or watch a screencast of the plugin in action.

1. Within the WordPress Administration Control Panel, expand the Posts tab, then select Add New.
2. Create a title for your post and add a description within the post field.
3. Paste the URL to the video you wish to embed within the Video URL field.
4. Enter the Width and Height parameters for your video within the fields provided. (OPTIONAL)
5. Click Update Post to save your options.
6. Once the page reloads, a full preview of your embedded video should be displayed.

Using the Shortcode

Simple Video Embedder provides a shortcode so you can embed videos anywhere in your post. The format for the shortcode is:

[simple_video id='5']

This will insert the video for the post with ID 5. If you leave out the id attribute, the video for the current post will be inserted.

[simple_video url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXF2nH4Z9sc&ft=22']

This will insert the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXF2nH4Z9sc&ft=22.
