If you haven’t checked out my latest Video Theme yet, you might want to have a look. The brand new TV Elements 3.0 WordPress theme has what I think is a great new feature that I intend on implementing within many of my upcoming themes. I wanted to create a way where you could choose and feature “categories” similar to the way most themes allow you to feature posts.

With that in mind, I developed a featured category gallery for the new TV Elements theme that allows you to configure up to 12 categories of your choice. Each featured category automatically pulls the post thumbnail added to the latest post within that category. This new feature gives your users an awesome new way to interact with categories on your site. I am definitely looking into expanding the functionality of this new feature within future updates themes, but I think the simplicity of what I did with TV Elements was definitely a good start.

Redesigned From the Ground Up

The all new TV Elements 3.0 WordPress theme has be redesigned and developed from the ground up, improving on everything that originally made it an amazing video centric theme over two years ago. Display any number of featured videos which can now be played directly within the content carousel on the home page. TV Elements also has a brand new feature that allows you to configure and display up to 12 “channels” on the home page which is basically a new visual way of representing your top categories. Each “channel” automatically displays the thumbnail from the latest post added to that category. If you like widgets… TV Elements allows you to configure any number of “widgets” on the home page, multi-post pages, single post pages and page pages. TV Elements comes with several custom widgets which allow you to add even more featured content, sidebar ads and related posts anywhere within the widgetized areas.

Something I have been meaning to do for quite a long time is integrate auto support registration for all Press75.com customers. Until now, this was a painstaking manual process which entailed new customers having to manually register within the support forums and then verify their membership via email. This was very time consuming for both the customer and myself.

As of today, support forum registration is automatic. When you make any theme or theme pack purchase on Press75.com, you will automatically be registered within the support forums and will be notified via email of your account details. I know this is not going to be groundbreaking news for most of my users, but think of it this way… it gives me more time to work on new themes and old theme updates.

I have been busy trying to find ways to make the installation process for themes even easier for all levels of WordPress users. Downloading and installing required theme plugins doesn’t take long, but I have made this process much faster by creating an “auto-install” option upon theme activation. Basically, after activating any Press75.com theme, you will be notified as to which plugins are required along with an “Install” link. Click the “Install” link to auto-install each plugin and then simply activate them after the installation process is complete. Check out the video below for a quick demonstration of this new feature.

The release of “Social Life” is the start of some brand new customization options coming to all my future WordPress themes. The more I continue to develop on my new theme framework, the easier I am finding it to integrate many of the features users have been looking for. Some of the things I would like to integrate into my new themes include navigation customization, enhanced featured content customization, post layout options, enhanced background configuration options, improved advertisement management, social media options and much more. I am going to try an implement many of these things within my next few themes including the updated version of On Demand and TV Elements.

An Improved Customization and Update Process

Customization and theme updates have always been a touchy subject in the past. I am working on ways that will make the process of customizing themes a cinch including the use of “child” themes. By using child themes, your customizations will be safe and sound when I make updates to the core theme framework. I will explain this in further detail later, but I just wanted to give Press75.com customers a heads up as to what I am working on.

The Social Life WordPress Theme integrates all your favorite social media services into one page. Display your Twitter Feed, Flickr Photos, Delicious Links, Vimeo Video and more. The Social Life theme makes this all super easy by providing simple configuration and management options (see video tour… right). Easily disable any service you do not wish to use, configure navigation options and much more.
